Houla White Out
Lightweight alder, one piece, flame, Quartersawn maple neck, oly white, parchment guard, slim C profile, 6230 fretwire, No load pot to get both original bridge type tone (wide open) and still roll back to warmer fuller tones. Just the right balance of glassiness/fullness/bell tone/girth
Josh Smith's 'Houla
Josh Smith's Ash 'Houla (used heavily on the "I'm Gonna Be Ready" CD). Blackwood board. Prior to his #1 (the Black T-bird Model) this was his go to guitar
Hybrid Hollow 'Houla
Hybrid Hollow, spruce top, Honduran mahogany neck, rosewood board, 25.4" scale, custom shop Duncan lipsticks used in a highly unusual manner, African blackwood trem block and saddles with turned bone inserts, documented legal ivory nut, completely non-strat 5 way ( 7 way if you are old school) switch plus my H.A.D. circuit variant. 5 pounds even, balanced not neck heavy, mother of pearl dots and shades inlay. Small....basically covers a ton of old chess records type of tones, plus Billy Butler, some p90 175 era Jim Hall type leanings and early B.B King.
Strata-houla
Lightweight swamp ash, flamed myrtle top, blackwood board on straight grained white korina, tiltback head, blackwood knobs, gold hardware 24.6 scale. Lollar lap steel bridge pickup.
The guitar is a pretty big rethinking of trad Strat type things. the change of scale combined with the balancing of that with the wood choices and the focus of the added myrtle cap, the thicker fingerboard, and the mid focus of the bridge pickup coupled in the new wiring all work together to give something unique and defined without ditching the familiar tonal choices. the real trick is doing in a way that still sounds "old".
BBQ 'Houla
Western red cedar body, mesquite fingerboard "true" flamed maple neck (bbq), 25.4 scale, phat staples, black dog middle single
Lipstick Strata-houla
Hawka-houla
"Albert" Strata-houla
24.6" scale Flamed Korina, Flamed Maple. "Albert" as dubbed by it's owner for it's Albert King like quality.
